Fremantle has enlisted Nick Mather to lead a label dedicated to the development of original unscripted formats.

Mather has been named executive VP, leading the new Fremantle Global Originals unit, which will look to develop ideas that can be rolled out across the company’s global production network. With a remit to develop “bold, scalable IP,” Mather will work in close collaboration with Fremantle’s creative talent and partners.

Mather was most recently executive VP at Wheelhouse Entertainment, where he co-created Million Dollar Secrets, Got to Get Out, Last Bite Hotel and Celebrity Puzzling. Previously, he was creative director at Possessed and managing director of Remarkable TV. He will report into Fremantle UK CEO Amelia Brown.

Brown noted: “To combine the creative format leadership of Nick with the production strength of Fremantle’s labels and companies is incredibly exciting. It places format creation right at the heart of everything we do at Fremantle and with his wealth of experience across the U.K., U.S. and international markets, Nick is perfectly placed to drive bold new ideas with global potential.”

Mather said: “Fremantle Global Originals is built on a simple idea; if you match motivated, forward-thinking creatives with Fremantle’s towering international infrastructure, you create a uniquely exciting space. Somewhere where creative ambition is matched by a commitment to make big, bold ideas happen. I’m looking forward to taking big swings with big swingers—if I’m allowed to call them that.”
