CJ ENM Unveils AI Strategy

At an event in Seoul, CJ ENM showcased how it is deploying AI as part of its creative and production pipeline, unveiling a new animated short produced entirely in-house.

The Korean media giant is marking its 30th anniversary this year. At the CJ ENM Talent Studio in Sangam, Seoul, it hosted an event showcasing how it is incorporating new AI technologies in its content pipeline.

“We are applying AI across the entire content value chain—including planning, production, distribution and marketing—to expand AI content production across genres and formats,” said Shin Keun-sup, chief strategy officer at CJ ENM. “This allows us to secure next-generation IP, At the same time, we’re nurturing a new generation of creators equipped with AI technology, business and content planning expertise, and expanding our AI team to position CJ ENM as a global AI studio.”

Cinematic AI is a system being used for narrative content such as drama series and movies, integrating images, video, sound and voice. AI Script is an AI agent system designed to help discover original IP, analyzing consumer demand and market trends.

The company unveiled the animated project Cat Biggie, a 30-episode series of 2-minute episodes created entirely in-house in five months. It is being rolled out globally on YouTube.

Baek Hyun-jung, head of AI business and production, led the planning and production of the series. “The key challenge was controlling and expressing the dynamic movements unique to animation. We used our tool, Cinematic AI, to convert the characters into 3D data and train the production system accordingly. This allowed us to achieve a high level of completeness in the final output.”
